Competency is demonstrated by the student’s ability to apply learned information to actually carry-out an audit or other graded activity. Students that can successfully demonstrate the function will be deemed competent. QAI instructors will help to bridge the gaps for students that do not demonstrate competency on the first or second attempts so that students can attempt to demonstrate competency again. This "do and re-do" approach helps close gaps so that students are able to move forward and complete the course in the time allotted to the class. QAI has successfully utilized this approach since 2006 with a 98% or better pass rate for students.
With multiple, progressive learning approaches, including hands-on practice auditing, our QMS Lead Auditor training course prepares graduates to become proficient and professional QMS auditors. The course includes a complete and thorough review of the ISO9001-2015 standard. This includes a look back at the history of quality and leads up to the current QMS system. Our "big picture" course section helps cement the financial side of the QMS and helps students to best understand how a QMS really works ($$).
With emphasis on the latest release of the QMS standard, there will be discussion on how things changed, why things changed, and how to go about meeting the new requirements.
A risk assessment activity has been added to the QMS Champion section of the course. In the risk assessment portion of the course, QAI instructors will walk you through a method to evaluate and rank risks for your QMS Processes. This is a method already in use in our other lead auditor courses that utilize risk assessment and analysis. You’ll learn what is intended by the standard, how to conduct a risk assessment, how to evaluate the results, and how to formalize a plan to mitigate known risks. You'll discover how this already "tried and true method" will help your company not only meet the new requirements, but will help your system to improve. The Risk Assessment activity is included on both the Lead Auditor and Champion courses.
Lecture topics will include implementation and documentation strategies and methods. Workshop activities are designed to strengthen your ability to assess a QMS system and its conformance to the standard. Group case studies with mock auditing - reinforce the learning process and help to familiarize you with process auditing.
The course is designed around an actual case study of a facility and its’ Quality Management Systems. Students end the course conducting an assessment of the case study facility and making a recommendation on registration. Under the new competency requirements program, we administer examinations throughout the course so that students get feedback right away and throughout the course about how well they are doing.
When students leave this course they already know if they have passed the course. There is no more waiting for results of a final examination like the arcane boot camp days of Lead Auditor training.

QAI speaks from experience and it is reflected in the value-added training, the material itself and practical hands-on demonstrations that you receive in your QAI class.
Since 1999, QAI has taught tens of thousands of people to be effective auditors, audit team members, and audit team leaders. With energetic, enthusiastic, and experienced internationally certified auditors as our instructors, you get more than just a "slide reader" at all QAI training sessions.
Our competency based training session is designed from scratch. You can forget about the marathon 'boot camp' days of lead auditor training. Our class runs 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day. There are no long nights with mounds of homework. Come see how competency based training is different.
About Competency Based Training:
With the release of our Competency Based training courses in 2006, QAI paved the way for a 4-day 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. ISO9001 Lead Auditor training session. Our class closely resembles the hours that adults are accustomed to working instead of cramming in an outdated style of "brain-dump training". That outmoded method is based purely on the results of a 2-hour examination on day five. With the QAI Competency Based Lead Auditor training session, students get four days of 8 a.m. -5 p.m. instruction. There is no homework. It includes hands-on activities and practice, enjoyable multimedia and high tech video training techniques. It is learnable, fast, challenging and fun! You, the student, get results that are measurable and that matter.
Competency based training includes multiple examination activities that take place several times each day. You receive feedback and guidance in each examination activity. The feedback and guidance help make certain that you not only understand the material, but are able to apply it in your job. These multiple examinations help us to assure that students understand and grasp material. It enables our expert instructors to assess the learning and instruction that has occurred to that point. We can provide guidance to help the student understand any gaps in what they have learned. Reassessing and re-guiding from an instructor with "real world experiences" helps to improve confidence in abilities, apply the newly learned information, and make a competent person.
This training course includes a competency based training evaluation designed by QAI. Students leave class each day by 5 p.m. and there’s no assigned homework. "Peace of mind" is gained in knowing the final pass-fail results during the class rather than waiting days or weeks later.
Competency based training is the difference that matters. Let us show you and your students how competency based training is the perfect opportunity to create more experienced, effective and competent auditors.
